Congratulations Golden Eaglets!

We did it! The Nigerian representatives at the under 17 world cup tournament, the Golden Eaglets have scored a back to back victory after defeating the Malians at the finals which took place in Chile in the wee hours of the morning. We led our opponents with 2 brilliantly scored goals that happened within the space of 3 minutes in the 2nd half of the final.

We have as Nigerians, broken some records in the course of this tournament. With this recent win, we are the only country to ever have won the tournament for a record of 5 times, our closest competition is Brazil with 3 titles. Our no 9 striker, Osimhen has set a new world record as the highest goal scorer since the history of the tournament with 10 goals.
Plus asides Brazil, we are the only country to have won the title Back to back.
From l to r: kelechi Nwakali and Osimhen
Two of our players got rewarded for their outstanding efforts as Kelechi was awarded the Golden ball as the MVP of the tournament and the bronze boot as the third highest goal scorer of the competition.
Osimhen was awarded the Golden boot as the highest goal scorer of the competition and the silver ball as the second best player of the tournament.

It wasn't all bad luck for Mali as their goal keeper was awarded the Golden gloves as the most outstanding goalkeeper in the tournament. Their player, Ally Malle snagged the bronze ball as the third best player of the tournament. Not bad huh? Plus they made history as this was their first final since the beginning of the tournament in the eighties. Wow!

Congratulations to our coach, our team, our supporters at Chile and other representatives that went with our boys. To think that the boys have accomplished this much at 15/ 16. I am proud to be Nigerian. I watched the match with my family and unlike our previous match with Mexico, my dad was relaxed that we would win. Nice one boys! I watched their celebration on national TV and you could see how excited they were, struggling to touch the cup and even speaking pidgin while going towards the stationed cameras whenever they could. How can anyone accuse them of falsifying their ages? They are clearly just kids. I loved seeing them all happy. I think the win meant everything to them. What did you think of the win?

Xoxo,
The Lagos Rebel 😍
